抄録: Alveolar bone loss requires alveolar ridge augmentation for implant treatment. Alveolar distraction osteogenesis has been used for the patients who require major alveolar ridge augmentation as a beneficial surgical procedure, because this procedure has little limitation on the distraction and allows expansion of the soft tissue at one time. However, this procedure has several disadvantages which include difficulty in adjusting the extension direction and a risk of infection due to the exposure of the bone extender. In this study, we report that we decided the treatment strategy using surgical simulation based on an actual model and that we performed implant treatment after alveolar distraction osteogenesis, producing a good outcome. A 59-year-old man had jaw bone atrophy and a mandibular 4-｜-3 defect due to a traffic accident. Since vertical and horizontal bone atrophy was pronounced, we planned alveolar distraction osteogenesis as a surgical procedure for alveolar ridge augmentation. We performed alveolar distraction osteogenesis using surgical simulation. After alveolar distraction osteogenesis, we placed implants and performed occlusal reconstruction, finally producing a good outcome. Alveolar distraction osteogenesis using surgical simulation is an excellent surgical procedure for alveolar ridge augmentation, because it is highly reproducible and expected to produce functionally an cosmetically good outcomes.

抄録: Skeletal muscle volume is reported to be associated with prognosis of cancer patients. Maintenance of skeletal muscle is an essential issue in cancer treatment. Glucose metabolism plays a pivotal role in maintaining skeletal muscle; however, cancer cells also require glucose as a main energy source. We here examined the effect of glucose loading on tumor growth and muscle maintenance using a mouse subcutaneous tumor model. CT26 murine colon cancer cells were inoculated into the subcutaneous tissues in syngenetic BALB/c mice, which were treated with water, 10% glucose or 50% glucose by free drinking for 2 weeks. Blood sugar was not different among the groups. Tumor sizes were larger in the glucose-treated groups than those in the control group. Protein content in the muscle was not different among the groups, whereas the levels of SDS-soluble myosin light chain 1 protein were higher in the glucosetreated groups than those in the control group. These findings suggest that glucose loading enhances muscle differentiation as significant as tumor growth.</description>
